It goes without saying that you should consider what it is you are capturing before you commit to pressing the shutter. Your composition will make or break an image, so it is important to position the key elements within the frame. There are plenty of guidelines to help you, such as the rule-of-thirds, but you can afford to apply your own creativity. The important thing is to take a good look at the subject in front of you, and the assess how to best use what is at your disposal to create the best image. This may involve changing angle or position, or moving your subject's pose or position, but all of these can make a significant difference to what is finally captured.

Overture

This image was shot using a Nikon D80 and 70-200mm VR f/2.8 lens.
With a focal length at 200mm I'm able to get good shot of the butterfly.
Giving that the background was nicely blurred (bokeh) at aperture of f/2.8 mainly.
So now the background is completely clean, the subject was focused center.
To help with the shadow of the foreground, I filled in with a diffuser flash SB-800.
So basically only the leaf was bit out of focus due to it was shot handheld.
Yes it was pretty "heavy" for your information.

A sweet smile from my niece and a cramp face from my nephew. Look how innocent children are. I do not know how adults(minority) would beat them up just of one small mistake that the children have made. Past few weeks, I've read an article about a father beat his daughter (still a toddler) until she died just because she playing with her father's cigarettes pack and the cigarettes were mashed up.
What kind of father is that?

Earth.
Our Planet. Our Home. Our Mother.
The planet that houses a diversity of life. Life forms that depends on the other for survival.
Competitions are tough in this planet and we are bound to make it tougher.
Industrialisation and urbanisation are threatening to destroy the home that we are living in.
With this development which we need are triggering the fast pace of deforestation.
The first major cause of global warming and extinction of wildlife species.
Trees are our major source of life. Trees provide us oxygen. The tree provide us resources for survival and comfort. Often the public missed out on this, trees, the house for millions of species of animals both discovered and yet to be discovered.

Guardian of the tree.

With the trees cut down, competitions for this beautiful guardians will be much more tense.
Their source of food will be limited. Territories will be breached.
And finally they will be in for the fight of their live.

Canopy

Being desperate, they will go on to scavenge for food and that means scavenging through rubbish too.
This is one major cause for the death of animals.
Pollution.
Rubbish that might look like food will be picked up and eaten.
Poisoning had been one of the caused of death to the animals.

The Wait.

Flight
Now with the presence of machinery, the pace is getting faster.
The rate of deforestation is unimaginable. The fastest rate of deforestation would be the Amazon rainforest.
Here in Asia, its not only deforestation for the resources that cause all these destruction but the
'Slash and Burn' practices by farmers.
Such practices are still carried out in Indonesia despite the law imposed. Illegal loggers continue to cut down and burn down the forest. Their beliefs are that the nutrients of the trees will be a benefit for their crops.
Burning down the forest would release huge amount of carbon dioxide, a green house gas, and hence warming up our planet. Speeding up global warming.
Global warming has been the major cause of all the natural disasters.
Flooding of low lying areas, unpredictable weather and surprisingly both health and social problems.
The haze carries about micro particle of ashes which travels with the wind.
It can travel to different part of the world and Singapore has been facing it.
Caused by our neighbour Indonesia, we suffer the consequences.
Asthma is the common sickness we get from the haze as we inhale the micro particles.
It has to be stopped. Imposing a stricter law will still not help.
Education might be one of the solution but who would educate these people?

The Cause of All Destruction.

The world is changing due to us humans.
Will you help to save the world from destruction?
Would you protect your home that you are living in now?
Think Hard. Think Again.
Our selfless acts have been causing much worse scenarios.
Helping the poor is still not enough.
The environmental problems are causing famines in third world countries.
Developers are exploiting their resources from their country.
The exploitation had been causing them dismay and starvation.
What would you do if you were in their shoe?

Updates on first outing.

I need confirmation with you guys.
How many of you guys can make it on the 28th?
What kind of outing do you guys want?
1- An outing to touch on landscape. Equipment needed, camera & tripod
2- An outing to the streets. Equipment needed, camera, flash if possible and luck.
3- An outing to any Nature Reserve Park to photograph nature. Equipment needed, camera, tripod, flash if possible, water bottle, towel, and first aid kit.
4- An outing to explore parts of Singapore, proposed "Old Railway Track" or any suggestions. Bring camera, tripod, water bottle, packed food, first aid kit or any extra clothing.
5- Marina Barrage. Camera, tripod, food and drinks and first aid kit. Picnic, games and lastly Sunset shoot of the Skyscraper. If weather permits
the outing will go on if we have a minimum of 5 people.

Hello guys.
I was actually assigned as one of the official photographers for Gaza Street Donation Drive run by SAFF Perdaus with collaboration with Mercy Relief. I could really say it was quite a challenge for me as you had to be very alert and really know what you are shooting especially the streets in Singapore.
I went around hunting down volunteers who are stationed and taking photos of them.
Some donors didn't feel welcome when I snapped their photos.
However, I had to photograph it.
Of course, I was given a task from Perdaus and also Mercy Relief.
It was actually a good experience. I had been in Street Photography for about a year now and really know how to take them only this time i approached them directly.
So anyone wanting to approach street photography, i advise you to practise taking photos without looking at your eyes. unless provided that they didn't notice your presence. Having a soft shutter sound is an advantage too. So, here are my decent share.

Let me start the first Photo post.
I would liek to share my water sculpture photos and also share a little bit of knowledge on it.

Firstly, I'll like to show my set up.

As you can see, it might be a little bit complicated but its a simple set up. Get a different set of colour transparent paper. Pick your combination. As for my set up, i used red as my base and blue as my background. Use either a very powerful white light or just a flash on slave mode. make sure you put a piece of white paper in front of the flash. My camera settings are 1/500 f28 ISO 200 and the flash power to 1/2. Use a tranparent container and fill water to the brim. dip ur finger in and manual focus at your finger. that will be the point where you drop your droplets of water or objects. Put your camera in timer mode and as the beep gets faster, press the dropper for multiple drops or use anything heavy like a coin and drop it. Different heights give different pattern. After you are satisfied, post processed it at photoshop to clean the background and add some lighting effects. and VOILA! you got yourself your water sculptures.

Here are my takes.
I wish it would inspire you in a way.
My advise, EXPERIMENT.
